What's new in PDF Xtra 8.0

Known Issues

When launching Adobe Reader 7 and 8 from CD-ROM on Windows there are inconsistent results,
depending on what applications have been previously installed and the state
of the system registry.

To avoid complications during testing and deployment, it is recommended to launch the user's
default installed version of Adobe Acrobat, Reader (or Preview on Mac OS X).

Limitations on Mac OS X

Installation

  1. Make sure Director is not running
  2. Extract all files to Director's Xtras folder. For Director MX 2004, this folder
is a subfolder of the Configuration folder. On older versions of Director
the Xtras folder is right beside the Director application.
  3. Move the file named PDFXtra Behaviors.cst to the Libs folder (at the same level as the Xtras folder).
  4. Start Director.
  5. Choose File > Preferences > General and make sure Animate in Background is turned on.
  6. Click Xtras > PDF Xtra > Enter Key... and enter the Trial key for PDF Xtra, which was e-mailed
to you when you downloaded PDF Xtra 8. If you have lost the original e-mail, you can obtain the
trial key from INM's website at the bottom of this page:
    http://www.INM.com/products/PDFdirector/download/
  7. In Director's Insert menu click Insert > Integration New Media > PDF Xtra...
to insert a new member of type PDF in your cast.
  8. Click Xtras > PDF Xtra >Help Online to open the web-based Help files, or
Xtras > PDF Xtra >Help PDF to view the user manual as a PDF file.

For Shockwave Auto-download (Windows only):
All versions of PDF Xtra are available as Verisign packages that can be auto-downloaded
from our website by your Shockwave movies.

To ensure that your Shockwave movies auto-install the right version of the Xtra, before creating a
Shockwave movie, copy the following text and paste it into the "Xtrainfo.txt" file
(This file is located in the Configuration folder for Director MX 2004, or in the same
folder as Director for older versions).

Everything in square brackets must be on a single line without line breaks.

Restart Director after changing this text file.

Important note for Macintosh and Windows users

Because PDF Xtra uses Acrobat or Acrobat Reader as a rendering/printing engine, and due
to both legal and technical limitations of Macintosh/Acrobat, Macintosh/Reader, Windows/Acrobat
and Windows/Reader, not all features are available or supported identically on all platforms.
PDF Xtra tries to standardize those features as much as possible, but some differences remain.
See the Methods Reference section of the PDF Xtra Help files or PDF Xtra User Manual
for more information.

For identical PDF functionality across both Mac and Windows, try INM Impressario Xtra.
