Post-Purge Results Troubleshooting
At the conclusion of a Purge operation, some tracks may not have been removed or deleted as expected:
Dead tracks
"Dead" tracks are track entries in Music for which a file no longer exists or is inaccessible (see Dupin and Dead Tracks).
Because the existence of these files is, at best, ambiguous (they may really be gone or they may still be viable on a drive which just happens to be unmounted), Dupin will ignore dead tracks during Filter and Purge operations.
You should delete these tracks from Music after determining their actual viability yourself. Dupin would rather not make those decisions.
You can assemble these post-Purge leftover tracks in a new playlist in Music by selecting them in Dupin and choosing Selection to Music Playlist... in the Selection menu.
"Un ex plures"from one, manyTwo or more tracks point to the same file
Music will only allow one track entry per file in its database. However, a very unusual set of circumstances can occur whereby Music will "think" that two tracks share the same file.
For example, if audio files are copied to a new location, then re-added to Music, and then Trashed, Music will presume the new set of tracks points to the original set of files; two sets of tracks will point to the same set of files (this sort of thing can happen if you are manually managing your media files with Music Match active). Compounding this disarray, if you delete one of the tracks and Trash its file, the corresponding duplicate track will be rendered "dead" since the file is gone and unrecoverable: you'll be left with no viable audio tracks.
For that reason, Dupin will not purge these tracks. You must manually do this yourself in Music by deleting the track without Trashing the file.
You can assemble these post-Purge leftover tracks in a new playlist in Music by selecting them in Dupin and choosing Selection to Music Playlist... in the Selection menu.
